Universal Applications

This diy 6×6 pavilion structure can be used as a carport, garage, a storage shed or for any other purpose. The length of the structure (left to right) can range from 12 ft. to 36 ft. with the brackets included in this kit. The width can range from 12 ft. to 30 ft. with the brackets included in this kit.

For smaller structures costs will be lower due to fewer metal bracket, less lumber, less roofing, and less concrete costs . Contact me directly for prices through Etsy messenger or directly at [email protected].

This structure uses six 6×6 posts to hold 6×6 headers and the roof loads.

This 6×6 carport can be built on concrete footings and concrete slabs (slabs require new footing under posts). The posts can also be buried into the ground and concrete poured around the posts. However, we do not recommend this method which leads to inaccurate post locations and buried posts in the ground will eventually rot. Instead, pour concrete into the post hole first, then use our post anchor bracket to attach posts to the top of the concrete footings. This will yield a permanent structure with no worries about posts rottting out in the future.

12 ft. maximum open span between the 6×6 posts is recommended to make your DIY work safe by keeping the 6×6 header lengths less than12 feet; keeping header weight managable and DIY work safe.

Rafters required 24″ on center for proper load bearing and to provide easy roof deck osb/plywood addition.

Open span of rafters between the two walls of this diy 6×6 pavilion are limited to code approved spans based on 2-by rafter size.
Rafters allow roof to overhang past each wall end.
You can also overhang the roof past the gable ends.

Shingles and metal standing seam-type roofing materials are approved.
Standing seam metal roofing panels available at Home Depot, Lowes, and Menards are comparable in price to regular grade shingles. For these pavilion roof structures, metal roofing panels are easier and faster to install and provide longer lifetime.

Uses 6×6 lumber for headers and 2×6 rafters, ridge beams, and roof skirts.
Rafters, ridge beam, and roof skirts must all be of the same size 2×8 lumber.
