For rain proofing and 100% UV shielding, we recommend polycarbonate panels available through www.duralightplastics.com or www.palram.com. Polycarbonate panels require only about 6″ drop per 12 feet of slope for drainage. To create a rain drainage slope, use 2×8 or 2×10 sandwich headers on the high side to achieve 4″ or 6″ drop across the width for rain drainage. These sandwiched headers are superior to 4×4 headers in load bearing capability. Also, if you want the roof to overhang the sides, we have a clever and easy way to create the overhang using these 2×8 or 2×10 headers. Ask us how. The price is only affected by the length of the pergola because the top rafters are running perpendicular to the length. So as length varies, more rafters are needed to fill the length (we use 24″ on center rafters) and more brackets to attach the rafters to the headers. Note: This is a DIY kit. Furniture, Lumber & Roofing Materials are not included. You buy them separately and locally. Lumber Size This bracket kit is designed to use 4×4 dimensional posts and headers.
